The Swimming Pool Have To Closing!!

If you are new to owning a pool you might be unsure of the steps that you need to take prior to covering up your pool at the beginning of winter. Even if you are a veteran, you just might learn something.

1) Vacuum the pool - Take your typical cleaning that you should be doing once a week anyways. You want to make sure you get all the leaves and other junk sitting at the bottom of the pool before you put the cover on it. This will help keep your pool from growing algae while that stuff rots at the bottom of your pool all winter. Also, as part of vacuuming you should clean the skimmers, which needs to be done every time you clean the pool.

2) Backwash after you vacuum - This is supposed to be done every time you vacuum, but many people choose not to backwash until the pressure builds up in the pumps. Even if your pressure is reading very low on the pump system, you still should backwash right before closing your pool.

3) Use Algaecide - If you have any traces of algae you must get rid of it before closing the pool or you are going to have a nasty surprise when you take your pool cover at the beginning of next season.

4) Balance the pH - The pH must be balance prior to closing your pool. If you need to add acid then go ahead and do it a day or two before you plan on putting the cover on.

5) You should shock the pool - Usually shocking a pool causes the chlorine to go somewhere between 3 and 10 times the normal level, but unfortunately this varies from pool to pool. You will need to check your instruction manual or search online for your specific type of pool prior to shocking it.

If you take these steps, you have a much higher chance of opening your pool without the need to treat algae that grew over the winter.
